Coco's Island... A jewel in the Pacific!

This jewel is one of the most biologically diverse areas on the planet.

Jacques Cousteau once called it "the most beautiful island in the world". A UNESCO world heritage site since 1997, and wetland of international importance since 2002.

It is located in the heart of the eastern Pacific, 532 Kilometers southeast of Costa Rica's Pacific coast and constitutes the only marine volcano that emerges from Coco's mountain range. It boasts a land area of 23.85 km2 and 1997 km2 of protected marine ecosystem terrain. In the past, it served as a refugee for pirates, merchants, whalers and even colonizers; you can hear tales of hidden pirate treasures... But today, it is one of the most amazing national parks!

This marvelous island offers to its visitors a show of wildlife richness: hammerhead sharks, hunchback whales, bottlenose dolphins, howksbill turtles, 90 species of birds, 32 coral species and over 260 species of flora (37 of them are endemic).

Traveling to this places takes around 2 days, when departing from Puntarenas.

Diving, snorkeling and kayaking are part of the adventures this island offers you. For adventurous divers, Cocos is a year round destination. However, there are 2 distinct seasons. The dry one from November to May, that provides calmer seas, and a much more comfortable cruise ride. Water temperature will range from 78-82ºF. Hammerheads will be present, but in lesser numbers than during the rainy season, which runs from June to November. This season is the time for the large schools of hammerheads, but also brings rougher sea conditions. Water temperature will range from 76-80ºF.
